The USS Tang was a Balao-Class fleet submarine. It was 311 feet long and 27 feet at the beam and displaced 1,526 tons surfaced and 2,424 ton submerged.
The Tang received four battle stars and two Presidential Unit Citations for service in World War II. It was credited with sinking 24 Japanese ships which totaled 93,824 tons. Her commanding officer received the Congressional Medal of Honor.
The Tang was sunk on October 24, 1944 by her own torpedo.
